Dr. Hendri Tanjung delivered a presentation on the sharia compliance system in Indonesia in front of the Zanzibar Economic Empowerment Agency (ZEEA) delegation, Zanzibar-Tanzania, on Wednesday, April 23 at the PNM Tower Kuningan Jakarta.

The delegation was led by Mr. Juma Amour Mohamed, Chairperson of the ZEEA Board of Directors. The visit was intended to gain insight into products, operations, technology, and governance structures in developing entrepreneurship and MSMEs in Indonesia. In addition, the delegation also wanted to learn about innovation and sharia financial products in Indonesia.

Zanzibar Economic Empowerment Agencies (ZEEA) is a government agency established under Law No. 2 of 2022, which is tasked with fostering an environment that supports the economic empowerment of Zanzibar citizens. The mission of this Agency is to increase productivity, increase efficiency, and increase the selling power of products created by entrepreneurs and business people throughout Zanzibar. ZEEA plays an important role in facilitating economic empowerment activities in design, planning, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation. In addition, ZEEA is responsible for mobilizing resources and managing special funds to support these initiatives, in order to ensure sustainable growth and empowerment in the local economy. There are four ZEEA services for MSME entrepreneurs, namely: capital provisions, business development and marketing, training and mentoring, technology development and production sector. The objectives of this visit are (1) Knowledge Exchange: conducting discussions and gaining knowledge from professionals through joint learning forums and consultation sessions related to various innovations and Islamic financial solutions for MSME entrepreneurs; (2). Operational Comparison: understanding and comparing the implementation of economic empowerment programs (MSME Empowerment) between Indonesia and Zanzibar; (3). Technology Adoption: exploring and reviewing the latest technology and systems that can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ZEEA’s management of MSME empowerment programs with Islamic financial schemes.

Meanwhile, the ZEEA Delegation, Zanzibar – Tanzania consisted of six people, namely: CPA Juma Amour Mohamed, Chairperson, Board of Directors of ZEEA; Mr. KHamis Mwalim Suleiman, Principle Secretary, President Office, Labor, Economic Affairs and Investment; Mr. Juma Burhan Mohamed, Executive Director of ZEEA; Dr. Maryam Jaffer Ismail, Member of Board of Directors of ZEEA; Mr. Said Mohammed Said, Member of Board of Directors of ZEEA; and Mr. KHamis Ali Omar, Director of Human Resources, Administration, and Planning.

In addition to Dr. Hendri Tanjung, also present as speakers were: Putu Rahwidhiyasa, Director of Sharia Business and Entrepreneurship of KNEKS; Dr. Hasby from BAZNAS, Triswahyu Herlina, Director of PNM; Razaq EVP Business Development PNM; and Ari Permana from LPDB.
